Making a positive difference for our guests, our community and our planet

At DoubleTree by Hilton Belfast City Ten Square, we believe that sustainability is a shared responsibility.

As a Belfast city-centre hotel, we want to play our part in protecting our environment, supporting our local community and helping Belfast continue to grow as a responsible and sustainable visitor destination.

OUR JOURNEY TO SUSTAINABLE HOSPITALITY

Our sustainability journey began in 2023, when we engaged with key stakeholders as part of a collaborative initiative involving Green Tourism, Visit Belfast, Belfast hotels and venues.

This city-wide approach recognised that creating a more sustainable tourism destination cannot be achieved by one organisation alone. It requires hotels, venues, tourism organisations, local businesses, suppliers, visitors and the wider community to work together.

Through our involvement with Green Tourism, we have continued to develop our understanding of sustainable hospitality and identify practical ways in which our hotel can reduce its environmental impact while creating positive benefits for our guests, our team and Belfast.

We are proud to be part of the wider Belfast sustainable tourism community and to support the work being carried out across the city.

GREEN TOURISM

Green Tourism is an important part of our sustainability journey.

Through Green Tourism, we are encouraged to continually review how we operate, reduce our environmental impact and improve our contribution to the communities in which we work.

Our approach focuses on practical areas including:
  • Reducing energy and water consumption
  • Minimising waste and increasing recycling
  • Reducing unnecessary single-use plastics
  • Supporting responsible purchasing
  • Encouraging sustainable food choices
  • Working with local suppliers
  • Supporting our local community
  • Encouraging responsible travel
  • Helping our guests make more sustainable choices
For us, sustainability is not simply about meeting a standard. It is about continually looking at what we do and asking how we can do it better.

SUPPORTING A SUSTAINABLE BELFAST

We are proud to work alongside Visit Belfast as part of the city's wider tourism community.

Visit Belfast plays an important role in promoting Belfast as a destination for leisure visitors, conferences, meetings, events and business tourism.

As a centrally located hotel, we welcome visitors from across the UK and internationally, and we recognise our responsibility to ensure that their experience contributes positively to the city.

We encourage our guests and delegates to experience Belfast responsibly by:
  • Exploring the city on foot
  • Using public transport where practical
  • Supporting local independent businesses
  • Choosing local attractions and experiences
  • Enjoying locally sourced food and produce
  • Reducing unnecessary waste
  • Making responsible choices during their stay
We believe that sustainable tourism helps create a better experience for visitors while supporting the people, businesses and communities that make Belfast unique.

REDUCING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

We continually look for practical ways to reduce our environmental footprint while maintaining the high standards and comfort our guests expect.

ENERGY
We work to reduce energy consumption through:
  • Energy-efficient lighting and equipment
  • Monitoring energy use
  • Responsible energy management
  • Team Member awareness and training
  • Reviewing operational practices for opportunities to improve efficiency
WATER
Water is one of our most valuable natural resources.

We encourage responsible water use through:
  • Water-efficient equipment
  • Monitoring consumption
  • Responsible operational practices
  • Team Member awareness
  • Encouraging guests to reuse towels and linen where appropriate
WASTE
Reducing waste is an important part of our Green Story.

We continue to focus on:
  • Recycling
  • Reducing food waste
  • Minimising unnecessary packaging
  • Reducing single-use plastics
  • Responsible purchasing
  • Reusing materials where practical
  • Working with suppliers to reduce waste

SUPPORTING OUR PEOPLE & COMMUNITY

Sustainability is about more than the environment.

We believe that a responsible hotel should also make a positive contribution to its people and its community.

Where possible, we work with local and regional suppliers, helping support businesses within the Belfast and Northern Ireland economy.

Our Team Members are also encouraged to take part in volunteering, community projects and educational engagement, including school visits that introduce young people to hospitality and the opportunities available within our industry.

We also provide awareness and training around important social responsibility issues, helping us contribute to a safer and more responsible hospitality sector.

SUSTAINABLE MEETINGS & EVENTS

As a Belfast conference and events hotel, we understand that meetings and events can also make a positive contribution to sustainability.

We work with organisers to encourage more responsible events through initiatives such as:
  • Reducing single-use plastics
  • Using reusable glassware and water stations
  • Reducing paper and unnecessary printing
  • Offering sustainable and locally sourced menu choices
  • Reducing food waste
  • Recycling wherever possible
  • Encouraging delegates to use public transport
  • Considering the wider environmental and community impact of events
We want our conference and event guests to enjoy Belfast while making choices that support the city's sustainable future.

Leave the community better because you were here.

OUR GUESTS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Sustainability is something we can all contribute to.

During your stay, you can help us by:
  • Reusing towels and linen where appropriate
  • Turning off lights and electrical equipment when leaving your room
  • Using water responsibly
  • Bringing and using a reusable water bottle
  • Avoiding unnecessary single-use plastics
  • Choosing locally sourced and plant-rich food options
  • Walking or using public transport around Belfast
  • Supporting local businesses and attractions
Small choices, multiplied across thousands of visitors, can make a meaningful difference.

LOOKING AHEAD

Our Green Story is an ongoing journey.

We will continue to work with Green Tourism, Visit Belfast, our local tourism partners, suppliers, Team Members and guests to find new ways to improve what we do.

Our ambition is simple:

USE LESS.

WASTE LESS.

SUPPORT LOCAL.

TRAVEL RESPONSIBLY.

DO MORE FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

As DoubleTree by Hilton Belfast City Ten Square, we are proud to be part of Belfast's growing sustainable tourism community.

Together with Green Tourism and Visit Belfast, we want to help create a visitor experience that is not only enjoyable, welcoming and memorable, but also responsible and positive for Belfast's future.

OUR GREEN STORY IS EVERYONE'S STORY.

Better choices today can help create a better tomorrow – for our hotel, our city, our community and our planet.
